Part 1-10 Lakes Near Lake Tahoe…
Although Lake Tahoe is a big beautiful lake with an abundance of activities, I thought it would be fun to share 10 lakes near Lake Tahoe with you. The first will be Sardine Lake, located in the Sierra Buttes. The Lake is about an hour and fifteen minute drive from Tahoe City, a great day trip.
This is the first time I have been to Sardine Lake and I would definitely put it on my top ten list. The lower lake has boats and cabins for rent. The people I talked with there said the fishing is great, but it was a little slow the day I was there.
They have a restaurant with two dinner seatings one at 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Although we could not stay for dinner the menu looked great, with items from steak to rack of lamb. Cocktails are served at the boat house an hour before dinner.
After several questions one of the staff suggested we GO TAKE A HIKE! So I asked one more question, where would be a good hike? He suggested hiking to the upper Sardine Lake, we did and it was spectacular.
The back drop of the buttes is unbelievable, they look as though they were pushed up from the center of the earth.
We hiked as far around the lake as we could and watched a few people kayak and fish near the shore.
The hike back down was just as much fun, because the views all seemed a little different.

These photos are beautiful, I would love to visit there some day
Thank you for the suggestion. I will definitely check that out the next time I am in Tahoe.
Thanks for the info. I wasn’t aware of these lakes, but now I plan to check them out.
As kids we used to go to Packer Lake in the 60’s! It was fantastic and still looks the same. Our parents always got the cabins with the kitchens–kinda hard not to with 4 young children. Check out the Tamarack Lakes on the way up to the lookout on top of the Sierra Buttes, small and secluded, bring whatever you need with you–no cabins or restaurants at these lakes.
