Snow Flowers at Lake Tahoe

Paul Smith said on June 28th, 2011 filed under: LOCAL AREA PHOTOS

Snowflowers at Lake TahoeThe Snow Flower also known as Snow Plant seems to be popping up all over the Tahoe basin.  If you’ve never seen a snow flower or just taken them for granted, stop and take a close look, they are quite interesting.  They seem to grow in shady areas where the ground is covered with pine needles.  Here is a link to an interesting article I found about Snow Flowers.

Paul, Great blog! I love snow flowers! They are a true sign of summer! I don’t have any growing in my yard, but they grow all over my neighborhood in Agate Bay. They are beautiful! Sometime grow in big clusters and sometimes just a lone stalk, resembling a red phallic symbol.

Great Shot of the Snow Flower Paul! I notice them all the time when I’m riding my bike around Tahoe.

We’ve got to get up there in the next week or two and see them.

I love this! Just the other day, I was discussing these flowers with some friends and we were wondering what the actual name is for them. Great shot, too. It shows the detail and texture of the flower. Very beautiful!

I am alwasy fascinated by how these seem to grow up through the pavement. These must be the stongest flowers in the world. I also wonder why they always seem to be by themselves. They are beautful, thanks for the post!
