Part 7 of 10 Lakes Near Tahoe…Ella Dry Lake

Ella Dry Lake, Waddle Ranch Preserve, Martis Valley

On Tuesday,  Toni and I drove to Martis Valley took a bike ride to Walden Ranch to see Ella Dry Lake. We parked near the Martis Dam which is just a few minutes from Highway 267. We rode over the top of the dam on a paved road. At the end of the road there is a single track that leads up to the lake. There are three or four directional signs along the way.  The trail is great for either hiking or biking though definitely more fun on a bike.

Part 6-10 Lakes Near Tahoe…Eagle Lake.

Today I decided to take a hike to Eagle Lake on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe.

Eagle Lake

On the way to the trail head I stopped at Alpenglow Sports in Tahoe City and bought a new pair of boots for the hike.  The sales people are great, they helped me find the perfect pair of boots and had me out the door in less than 30 minutes.

The trail is about a twenty minute drive from Tahoe City and located above Emerald Bay. I brought two companions along for the hike; Toni my wife and Cindy my neighbor.  There is a parking lot at the trail head but it fills up early and we did not arrive until about 3:00pm. Fortunately there is street parking and we found a spot about a quarter mile up the road. Read the rest of this entry »

Angora Lakes are located near Fallen Leaf Lake in South Lake Tahoe.

Lower Angora

A friend at work lent me a book about mountain bike trails at Lake Tahoe. As I read through it I noticed a trail up to Angora Lakes. That evening I drove to Fallen Leaf Lake with some friends to give the trail a try. We arrived at the trail head parking area and and saw an area map. The map showed the lakes were only a mile away. Kayaking at Lake Tahoe’s Sand Harbor

Paul Smith said on September 1st, 2010 filed under: ACTIVITIES

Kayak at Sand HarborKayaking is a great way to explore Sand Harbor during the summer months. I had some friends up from the bay area that wanted to get out on the lake, so we decided to rent kayaks. We rented two tandem peddle kayaks from Tahoe City Kayak. The people there are friendly, very helpful Read the rest of this entry »
